Community guidelines

The LO Network is how Leadership Orange alumni and community leaders find each other. These guidelines keep it useful, safe and worth joining. Every profile is reviewed against them before it goes live.

Draft. Leadership Orange is reviewing this with counsel.

The short version

  • Be yourself: your real name, a clear photo of you and your current role.
  • Keep it professional. Your profile is about your work and how you serve the community.
  • No selling, fundraising or advertising in profiles or messages.
  • Treat every member with respect. Take no for an answer.
  • Protect each other's privacy. Don't copy or share members' details.

Who the network is for

The LO Network is for graduates of Leadership Orange programs, people who live or work in or around Orange County, NY, and leaders invited by Leadership Orange or a network sponsor. Membership is free while the network launches. When paid membership starts, Leadership Orange graduates and sponsored members stay free.

One account per person. Accounts for businesses, organizations or groups aren't allowed; list your organization on your own profile instead.

Your profile

These are the requirements we check during review.

  • Name: your real first and last name. Nicknames are fine in your bio.
  • Photo: a clear, recent headshot of you alone, at least 400 by 400 pixels. No logos, group photos, pets or heavy filters.
  • Role and company: your current job title and employer, or the organization you volunteer with.
  • Location and industry: the city and state where you work, and the industry closest to your role.
  • Bio and about: in your own words, about your work and interests. No all-caps, no lists of keywords.
  • Links: your own professional pages, such as your company website or LinkedIn. No fundraising, sales, affiliate or political campaign links.
Approved“Operations leader at a regional food network. Glad to talk volunteer logistics and building teams that stay.”
Needs edits“BEST RATES IN ORANGE COUNTY!! Call now for a free quote. Donate to my campaign at the link below.”

Keep your profile current. When you change jobs or update your photo, edit your profile and we will review the change.

Messaging

  • Introduce yourself and say why you are reaching out.
  • No sales pitches, recruiting blasts or the same message sent to many members.
  • If someone declines your request or doesn't reply, don't message them again from another account or channel.
  • No harassment, threats, hateful language or unwanted romantic messages.

Sponsors and promotion

Network sponsors appear in clearly labeled placements. Members, including sponsored members, don't advertise in their profiles or messages. Event announcements from Leadership Orange come from Leadership Orange.

Privacy

  • You choose whether your email, phone and website show on your profile. Messages stay inside the network, so your email stays private.
  • Don't copy, export or scrape the directory, and don't add members to mailing lists without their permission.
  • Don't share a member's contact details or messages without their permission.

How review works

A person on the Leadership Orange team reviews every new profile and major change, usually within two business days. You will get one of these by email:

  • Approved: your profile is live in the directory.
  • Needs edits: we list exactly what to change. Fix it and resubmit.
  • Not approved: we explain why and link back here. You can update your profile and resubmit, or reply to the email to ask about it.
  • Suspended: for harassment, spam, impersonation or repeated problems. Your profile is hidden and we contact you before anything is removed.

Reporting a problem

Use Report in the menu on any profile or conversation. Reports go to the Leadership Orange team, not to the person you reported, and we look at every one.
